If Superman aka Vince Young never came to Texas would Mack Brown be in the unemployment line right now?Would Mack Brown still have a job if he never recruited Superman? No, I don't think he would. There are no instances in Brown's coaching career before or after Vince Young where his team won a truly big game. And if you look at the big wins when Young was there(Rose Bowls vs. Mich %26amp; USC), it was the result of the play of VY rather than superior coaching. Without his playmaking skills, they would have lost both of those games easily. Brown is a great recruiter, %26amp; decent coach. But he's no match for the better coaches %26amp; would absolutely be employed somewhere else without Vince.Would Mack Brown still have a job if he never recruited Superman?
No
Vince young is Mack Brown's legacy as a coach. There team has proved this in the last 2 years.Would Mack Brown still have a job if he never recruited Superman?Hard to say since nobody knows who the QB would have been had Vince not attended, and Mack recruited a ton of talent besides him.
That being said, he did recruit Vince Young and he did go undefeated and win a national champ over what was supposed to be the "best team ever", in their backyard no less.
Also, UT has either the first or second best winning percentage in the entire country since Mack arrived. Better than Ohio State, Florida, or even OU.
Had he not recruited Vince, the OU losing streak may have done him in, despite his success elsewhere.
He may yet be sent packing if he isn't willing to part with Greg Davis, his offensive coordinator.
Everyone knows the book on Texas and Mack. Fantasic recruiter, poor motivator, poor game coach, and the dumbest offensive coordinator in the US (now that baby Bowden's been booted from FSU).
Still, he wins 10 games a year, and probably will have a job unless the Big 12 gets some more great coaches as competition.
Mack, in essence, is Phil Flulmer, circa 2001. Still an elite program with one super year, but the weaknesses are evident.
The difference between the two is that Fulmer has to deal with Spurrier, MEyer, Saban, Richt, and Tuberville, while Mack only has Stoops as an elite competitor.
With K-State's rise, however, that may be changing, and MAck may ultimately be doomed.Would Mack Brown still have a job if he never recruited Superman?
No.
He would still be employed. Look at the NFL draft the past 6 or 7 years or how many Horns are playing in the league.Would Mack Brown still have a job if he never recruited Superman?I believe you have a valid point and the answer is NO. Mack Brown would be somewhere else right now, had it not been for his savior, Vince Young.
